Chapter 36

Chapter 36

I returned to Yagen for the next session, a one-on-one private session, because my father warned me that my in-laws were telling the rabbi that I wasn't taking marriage counseling seriously. Still, I hadn’t given up, and I asked other bloggers about marriage counselors who could really help. My private session with Yagen was in his office, not in the conference room. When I came in, he was on the phone again, his feet crossed over his desk, eating a pizza and discussing the arrangements for a band to play at an affair. It seemed one way he tried to make himself “big” was by making his clients wait while he spoke to his brother about the musical encore at a family affair. “Whew,” he breathed out as he hung up. “So.” He looked at me long and hard. It was creepy. “I got you something. Wait here.” He came back with a stack of papers and put it down before me.  “All of these will prove to you that evolution isn’t true.” “Is this what you gave to my husband during his private session?” “I feel like, in your case, most of the work I would have to do would be with you. There is a lot of work here. I can tell this is a very long process. We are going to log some serious time. Sometimes, I have to take someone home for a whole weekend because I can’t really get to the core of things over the course of an hour. It may take…a 16-hour stretch! I have a woman at my home now whom I’m working with.” I was horrified. Some poor woman who was struggling with demons had come to this man for help, this pizza-gobbling music-arranging lunatic, and I imagined the worst ways he was taking advantage of her vulnerabilities.
