Hasidim have a new Slogan…

A Live Free Or Die sign in a Hasidic cemetery

On Freedom

Frieda Vizel

Frieda Vizel left the Hasidic community, the Modern Orthodox community and the Formerly Orthodox (OTD) community. She now lives in Pomona and is actively looking for a new community to leave. She deals with the perplexities of the communities she left by drawing cartoons about them, a habit that gets her into an excellent amount of trouble.

  1. Is this referring to the welfare state?

  2. Shpitzig, you need to work on the caption here, this one isn’t self evident.

  3. Dieanotherd, any good ideas? Suggest something.

To clarify, this is the graveyard of Hasidim who adopted the motto; obviously freedom is not forthcoming in this society.

  4. Title: Nu, Efsher.

  5. Unfortunately, for too many years it was convert to Christianity or die, or convert to Islam or die. So if living free equals conversion, and Chasidim seem to think it does, then they choose to die “al kiddish hashem.” Excellent point made here by the esteemed cartoonist.
